Irish Mythen will be our Songwriters' Circle host Saturday July 26th

Budding East Coast performer Irish Mythen will headline the main stage concert of Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song to be held in the scenic South Shore fishing community of Lockeport. "Irish was with us last year and was a crowd pleaser," says Errin Williams Spidle, producer of Harmony Bazaar. "She made a real a connection to the community. In fact, there are a number of women who have participated each year who are with us again. We're pleased to have them back and to be able to provide our audience with their favorite performers." Pat Watson, Cathy Cook, Judi Cleveland, and Shelley Meisner are just a few of the returning performers. New artists to the festival include Jet Black and Pink Thunder. "The local youth are very excited to hear Pink Thunder. ,they checked out their MySpace page and found out that [they] opened for bands like Hedley, offers Emily McKenney, Festival Intern & Youth Stage Coordinator. Nova Scotia's only women's music festival, Harmony Bazaar was launched three years ago to offer women a venue to showcase their talent. New to the festival this year will be a spoken word performance by Shauntay Grant, a songwriters' circle and an industry dinner to provide networking and learning opportunities for the artists. "Many local performers have told us that they feel disconnected to the East Coast music scene by not living in Halifax," says Errin. |
Special attention is given towards mentoring young women to express
themselves within a variety of mediums. |
"They need more information about programs and opportunities available to support them in a career in music. We hope that the festival can provide this assistance to them."
Lockeport Nova Scotia is a beautiful backdrop for the week-end. With white powder sand beaches, a picturesque harbour, and a marine themed children's play park, the youngest to the oldest concert patron will find more to do than they can fit into the week-end.
The seed of Harmony Bazaar took root in 2004 with a small concert featuring three musicians: Shelley Meisner, Judi Cleveland and Kelli Buchanan, as well as comics Paulette Scott and Cathy Davis.
In the fall of '05, a second concert was declared a success. Many agreed it was time to launch a festival to further highlight the undiscovered talent within our community.
FishNet took the leading role in the project, a planning committee was formed with representation from a number of community-based organizations.
Many thanks to our Sponsors!
